Students in the Australian Technical College attempt to become Australian School Based Apprentices (ASbA) and complete paid work for a local employer and complete around 1/3 of their full apprenticeship whilst still at school. The students also complete their South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) at the same time.
In a unique and special arrangement, students in the ATC-SG&O will complete some of their SACE at their local DECS or Catholic or Independent school.
ATC-SG&O students will receive high quality preparation skills for work from the ATC-SG&O combined the best trade training possible from local Registered Training Organisations.
ATC-SG&O students will complete their SACE through innovative and flexible teaching methods. Students will have their "normal" school subjects modified to suit their workplace environment as much as possible.
Employers wishing to employ an ATC-SG&O student know that they will receive a student with specialised work skills, regular mentoring by ATC-SG&O staff, small business management skills, extra literacy and numeracy help and employers continue to receive the usual financial benefits provided by the Australian Government for employing a School Based Apprentice. Employers can gain financial benefits totalling over $4000 in some cases.
