If I complete an Application Form am I guaranteed a place?  No. Each student’s application is considered on its merit. For a student to be successful in gaining enrolment in the ATC-SG&O he/she must be willing to accept an offer of employment from a nominated local employer AND be willing to complete their SACE. The applicant must also satisfy the ATC-SG&O that he/she is willing to follow all directions and instructions set by their employer, RTO and the ATC-SG&O.

Do I get paid for my work? Yes! You are paid the normal award rates for a School Based Apprentice once you have been successfully signed up to a contract of training by an employer.

I am in Year 11 or 12, can I still enrol? Yes. Please contact the College to find out how but normally students enrol at the end of Year 10 and complete Year 11 and 12 with the ATC-SG&O.

What does "industry governed" mean? It means the College is run by key industries in the region.  BHP Billiton, Onesteel, Nyrstar and Babcock & Brown are the major employers in the region and are all board members of the College and all employ ATC or ex-ATC students.

I left school recently. Can I still enrol in the ATC-SG&O?  Yes, provided you are prepared to commit to completing your SACE.

Will I still get school holidays?  Yes but not in the way you have been used to.  It is likely that you will be working as a paid tradesperson during your normal school holiday breaks.   You will still get some breaks though, like any employee.  Remember! You are an apprentice now!

Why does the ATC-SG&O only have classrooms and ICT rooms? The ATC-SG&O utilises existing training facilities in local Registered Training Organisations, such as TAFE.   All of our campuses are nearby the local TAFE campus.  We do have our own Certificate I Building and Automotive workshop at our Pirie site that is used by all our students.
